HOUSTON PUBLIC RECORDS · ORIGINAL SOURCES
Houston building permits and permit archives
Read the city’s own project wording in the available residential and demolition permit reports. Follow a project identifier across report appearances, compare dates and open the original workbook evidence.
Know which permit you are reading
Historical building-permit reports, street-cut permits and mobility permits describe different activities. They remain separate sources. A scheduled date does not establish completed work, and repeated report rows are not necessarily distinct permits.
What the archive can establish
The integrated building-permit workbooks cover 2024 residential and demolition reports. They supply project descriptions and identifiers, but do not supply an individual approver, beneficial owner or holding company. Current building-permit and inspection coverage is not complete. Use the publisher’s portal for current permit status.
Available evidence and coverage
Counts describe stored source records, which may include repeated report appearances or document pages. They are not counts of unique projects, businesses or incidents.

Coverage and limitations
- Counts are report rows, not necessarily distinct permits, projects, buildings or approvals. Repeated project identifiers and repeated rows remain separate source evidence.
- PROJ_NAME, PRMT_DESC and FCC_CODE_DESC are the publisher’s wording. No applicant, individual approver, beneficial owner or holding company is supplied by these workbooks.
- SOLD_DATE is the publisher’s date label, not a completion date or proof of who approved the work. BEG_DATE and END_DATE are retained without inferring permit validity or approval periods.
- ESTIMATED_VAL is the source’s estimated value, not a verified contract, budget authorization or payment. Do not total repeated project rows as independent spending.
- Addresses describe project sites as published; no geocoding, municipal-boundary inclusion or ownership is inferred.
- Cached spreadsheet formula results are preserved without recalculation. Repeated headers retain their column positions. Unlabeled columns retain their values without inferred meaning.
- Only configured, successfully acquired historical workbooks are included. Current Sold Permits access and unavailable 2025 links remain separate source gaps.
